First Thing to know here is that Death is the End of Each Way – According to Genesis 4:8, Abel was the first to reach the end. Moses writes, “And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.”
Death was appointed unto man after the sin of Adam. Cain slew his brother Abel. Abel was the first man to ever die. He came to the end of the way. His time began in eternity then. He yet has not less time to live. Every single one of us here today will come to the end of life, regardless of which way we are traveling.
That’s the First thing we should know!
The Second Thing to know is that The End of the Narrow Way is Heaven – Luke 16:22 says, “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom.”
The beggar traveled the narrow way. It was said, “The beggar died.” In other words, just like Abel, he came to the end of the way. Angels took charge of him and carried him into heaven. All the righteous will come to the end of the way. Angels will be waiting on them. The end of this way will be happiness, nothing to dread. It will be the beginning of eternal joy.
That’s the Second thing we should know!
The Third Thing to know is that The End of the Broad Way is Hell – You heard verse 22, now listen to v.23, “The rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lifts up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.”
Like Abel and the beggar before him, the rich man also traveled, but he traveled the broad way. It was said, “The rich man also died.” He came to the end of the way. Notice the difference. No angels were there to take charge of him. It was next said of him, “In hell he lifts up his eyes, being in torments.”
Hell is the end of this way and the doom of everyone who travels therein. Those who come to the end of the broad way will die as other men die. They will be buried, which is nothing unusual, but from there on they will be living in the torments of hell forever.
Can I tell you again that we are all travelers? If you know you are a traveler, you ought to be interested in knowing about the place you are soon to arrive.
This has been a food for your soul moment! Which way are you headed?
